THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY
There's something in me that is not keen to go to heaven now. Strange? If heaven's much better than here, why don't I want to go there ASAP? But I'm not the only one that feels this way.
The problem is that I need to die first, which means I have to leave all the physical things I've got used to. All the feelings, sounds, tastes, friendships, family, holiday plans, etc... are stripped away from me. I'm a body, not only a soul. And although I want heaven eventually, it's still hard to let go.
The wonderful thing - and we forget this - is that I'm assured of experiencing 'the physical' in heaven! At Mass, in the Apostles' Creed, we say "I believe in the resurrection of the BODY".
The link between our body and soul is so strong that if my body were not in heaven, 'I' would not be there.
But we believe our bodies will be 'glorious', ie. different and better. So I suspect I'll be slim and have hair! And definitely no cancer.
And the physical things that I lose through death will all be regained 'in God' - love, family, friends, sights, sounds, and holidays.
So "Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20)
