STAYING ALIVE

When Jesus said, “Come and follow me,” it is so easy for us (myself included!) to neglect the fact that we have to pick our crosses every day; that is the cost of discipleship, as Pope Benedict XVI said, “We are not made for comfort, we are made for greatness.”

Here I am at the airport, waiting for my flight for a meeting out of town. I have been blessed with these opportunities to travel; to meet people and make Jesus known to them. I have been saying this so many times, but I will say it again anyway, I am here to make Jesus famous, as the Psalm says, “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory.” (Ps 115:1)

Sometimes we can lose focus in our ministry. When we are too busy, sometimes we can easily turn to ourselves as the centre of everything. This is a challenge for us Christians. When this happens, we will eventually ‘lose the fire’ as Jesus is not present in our ministry.

That is why I try to discipline myself with my prayer life. I am committed to spend time with Jesus every day in my personal prayer time. He will nourish us, he will equip us, he will provide us with the strength for us to make Him known.

Oh, and of course I try to be discipline with my exercise as well! Our whole being is connected; spirit, soul and body – this is also an important factor for our Christian living that might be often overlooked.

Ok, I have to rush to the gate now, my flight is boarding! Please pray for me as I also pray for you all.

In Jesus,

Fr Rob
